While the rest of Dublin is already in full panic mode about holiday shopping, we're over here calmly preparing for what promises to be the best festive season our area has ever seen. This weekend, we're in that sweet spot between autumn and the Christmas madness โ€“ perfect timing to get your bearings before the Santa Parade kicks everything off next Friday.

From major infrastructure consultations that'll shape how we get around for decades to come, to the opening of that magical illuminated walk we all love, this weekend is packed with opportunities to have your say and get involved in your community.

๐Ÿ“ฐ NEWS & COMMUNITY UPDATES

๐Ÿšด CABINTEELY GREENWAY: YOUR CHANCE TO SHAPE THE FUTURE

The Big Picture: DLR County Council wants your input on the Cabinteely Greenway โ€“ a 2.3km walking and cycling route connecting Cornelscourt to Cherrywood through Cabinteely Park.

The statutory public consultation runs until Thursday, December 11th, 2025, and here's why it matters to you:

What's Proposed:

  • Safe, accessible route for walking, wheeling (mobility aids), and cycling between Cornelscourt and Cherrywood

  • Four distinct sections covering the full 2.3km route

  • Connection to schools, public transport, and green spaces

  • Features designed to enhance wellbeing and nature connection

The Problem It Solves: Currently, there's a lack of safe, accessible crossing points for people walking, wheeling and cycling along the route, with poor connectivity for pedestrians or cyclists wishing to travel from Cornelscourt through to Cabinteely Park and onto the wider Cherrywood area.

Key Dates:

  • Wednesday, November 19th, 7-8pm: Information webinar (register via Zoom)

  • Monday, November 25th, 4-8pm: Drop-in information event at St Brigid's Girls School, Cabinteely

How to Have Your Say: Submit feedback online at https://dlrcoco.citizenspace.com/infrastructure-climate-change/active-travel-cabinteely-greenway/ or drop hard copy surveys at Cabinteely Library.

Why This Matters: This isn't just about cyclists โ€“ it's about creating safer routes for school runs, reducing car dependency, and connecting our communities in ways that make everyday life easier. The closing date for receipt of submissions is Thursday, 11th December 2025.

๐Ÿ’Œ CLOSING THOUGHTS

Here's what makes this weekend special: we're in that calm before the wonderful storm of Christmas festivities. Next Friday, our area transforms into a winter wonderland, but right now, we have the perfect opportunity to prepare, plan, and have our say on projects that'll shape our community for years to come.

The Cabinteely Greenway consultation isn't just bureaucratic box-ticking โ€“ it's a genuine chance to influence how safe and accessible our area becomes for everyone, from school kids cycling to parents with buggies to older residents wanting better walking routes. That's the kind of stuff that makes living here even better.

And the Christmas events? They're not just festive fluff. DLR Christmas 2025 promises to be the county's most magical celebration yet, with twinkling lights, snowy scenes and joyful outdoor experiences for all ages. From the Santa Parade to the illuminated walks, ice skating to Wonderlights, we're getting a month-long celebration that rivals anything in Dublin city centre โ€“ without the crowds or hassle.

This weekend, whether you're browsing Blackrock Market, planning your consultation submission, or simply enjoying a harbour walk, remember that we're part of a community that actually listens and delivers on what matters to residents.

Weekend Challenge: Do one thing this weekend that contributes to making DLR even better โ€“ attend an event, submit feedback on the Greenway, support a local business, or simply connect with a neighbor. Small actions, big community.
